The Research Experience for Teachers (RET) program gives K-12 teachers the opportunity to engage with scientists from the University of Pennsylvania around cutting-edge research that addresses the societal grand challenge of food, energy, and water security by advancing technologies to increase crop production, while minimizing the use of energy and water resources and the impact of agricultural practices on the environment. Teachers collaborate with Center researchers to develop lessons for their students that share the exciting science, engineering, and agriculture concepts and advancements at the Center and in Ag-Tech. The resulting new, hands-on, standards-aligned curriculum is made available to educators everywhere. These RET educators and the larger education community are essential for preparing the next generations to contribute to future advancements in Ag-Tech and in science, engineering and agriculture broadly.
Program dates: mid-June — early August (TBD)
Program location: University of Pennsylvania
Who is eligible: Philadelphia-based K-12 STEM teachers
RET participants will earn a stipend and receive a budget for sensor and robotics kits and other classroom materials needed to implement their lesson plans. Teachers will be asked to participate in research and education activities as part of their immersive experience in IoT4Ag. More information about the program and application process for the Summer 2025 RET program will be available in March 2025.
