Pathway to PhD

Introduction

Are you interested in pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in science and engineering? If yes,
the Pathway to PhD Program (PPP) may be for you. This workshop will walk you through applying to graduate-level PhD programs in the United States. It will provide information about funding opportunities and help you develop your own application materials.

PPP is sponsored by The Internet of Things for Precision Agriculture (IoT4Ag) Engineering Research Center, funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF).

The intensive workshop will be held online on Saturday, September 14, 2024, 10 AM – 5 PM, EDT. Participants will continue working with program mentors to create their personalized application materials into October 2024.

Read on for more information.

Program at-a-Glance

IoT4Ag seeks undergraduate and master’s students who wish to (1) learn about the graduate school admission process to US-based PhD programs, including factors that contribute to a strong application, (2) gain an understanding of the components of fellowship opportunities like the National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship Program, and (3) write a personal statement and research plan for these opportunities. This is an intensive, hands-on workshop that mentors students through the process of writing application material drafts. Mentors include NSF Engineering Research Center-affiliated faculty members and graduate students, many of whom are former and/or current NSF Fellows.

Audience

  • Third and fourth year (as of Fall 2024) undergraduate and master’s students interested in pursuing a PhD program.
  • Currently majoring in engineering, agricultural science, or a related discipline.
  • Interest in IoT technologies in agricultural settings.
